General Questions

What does Copper Peak Logistics do?

Copper Peak Logistics specializes in direct to consumer (DTC) fulfillment, logistics, and shipping solutions for wine, non-perishable food items, and culinary products. We handle everything from order processing and packaging to shipping and returns.

Who do you serve?

We partner with wineries, retailers, importers, and agencies that need reliable and scalable nationwide fulfillment and logistics solutions. Our specialty is in DTC wine fulfillment services for small to medium size wineries located primarily in Napa and Sonoma Counties.

Where are you located?

We have multiple locations to support advanced logistics for your DTC sales. We have distribution facilities in Napa, California and St. Louis, Missouri. We can reach 90% of U.S. customers in just 1-2 days.

How long have you been in business?

Copper Peak Logistics started in 2006 right after the Supreme Court case Granholm v. Heald, a 2005 decision that ruled state laws allowing DTC wine shipping for in-state wineries but not out-of-state wineries were unconstitutional, as they violated the Commerce Clause of the U.S. Constitution by discriminating against interstate commerce.

Who owns Copper Peak Logistics?

The Lane Family of St. Louis, MO is the sole owner of Copper Peak Logistics and is one of four companies in their portfolio. CPL is the oldest privately held DTC wine fulfilment company operating under the same ownership.

What does “Craftsmanship Fulfillment” mean in your tagline?

The term craftsmanship fulfillment embodies who we are and what we do. We have never strived to be the biggest, opting instead to focus on being the best at DTC wine shipping. Our services build upon the work done by the wine making team and being the last ones to touch a bottle before passing the finished orders to the carriers, perfecting our craft is critical to shipments arriving on time and creating a perfect customer experience.

Compliance & Regulations

Does Copper Peak Logistics have licenses for us to use in DTC shipping?

No, our clients must have the necessary DTC shipping licenses in each state they plan to ship into. The states available will depend on what type of licensed entity you are. A Producer (02) can get licenses in 49 states, while a retailer/importer (09, 17, 20, 85) can get licenses in 13 states (as of Sept. 2025).

What licenses does Copper Peak Logistics have?

Copper Peak Logistics is required to maintain fulfillment company licenses and/or registrations in multiple states. These requirements include reporting shipments made on behalf of our clients and must include the client DTC licenses for the corresponding shipments.

Do you have tools for helping us maintain complaint shipping?

Yes. Our technology platform CopperLink includes the ability to turn on and off states based upon where licenses are held. We are also a member of the Wine Institute that provides timely information on legislative development that helps us inform you of any pending changes that could affect our collective ability to legally complete DTC wine shipments.

Do you handle age verification?

No. Age verification protocols are typically part of the e-commerce technology that happens during order processing and by the small parcel carriers at time of delivery.

Technology & Integration

Can you integrate with my e-commerce platform?

Absolutely. We have integrations with a variety of platforms. We are a SOVOS ShipCompliant Platinum Partner that provides access to APIs with a wide variety of partners, and we maintain our own direct integrations with many others. The most common integrations are with Commerce7, Wine Direct, Corksy, Cultivate, eCellars, Figure, OrderPort, Shopify, and Vinoshipper.  If you are currently using another solution, please let us know as we might already have another winery set up using that tool. Our tech team ensures seamless data flow between your digital storefront and our fulfillment systems.

Do you have a client portal?

Yes. We offer our clients the use of CopperLink, a client portal that provides access to our Infoplus Commerce WMS. This wine centric solution provides access to all of the needed functionality for running a successful DTC shipping program.

Can I make changes to orders before they ship?

Yes. Order modifications, like an address change or correction, can be made online using the CopperLink portal. Changes can be made up to the point of processing.

Do you provide real-time tracking and reporting?

Yes. Our client portal offers real-time visibility into inventory, order status, and shipping performance. You can also configure custom dashboards and auto-generated reports to help you drive business intelligence — empowering you to make data-driven decisions quickly.

Can I send shipment notifications to my customers?

To help improve wine shipment success rates we have an integration with RedChirp, which empowers wineries to automatically notify customers about critical shipment updates in real time – via automated, personalized text messages. You can also use your ecommerce solution or CopperLink to send email messages regarding package shipment statuses.

Fulfillment & Shipping

What type of orders do you ship?

We pick, pack and ship a variety of orders from multiple sources. These range from daily ecommerce, tasting room, traditional wine clubs, subscription wine clubs, allocation or release models, and a wide range of corporate gifting programs. Our services can be tailored to your brand’s needs and customer expectations.

What facility should be used for my business?

This question is best answered by analyzing your existing production and shipment data. Copper Peak has tools to model costs for using one of our facilities or both. Where you are producing or importing wine, along with the total number of SKUs, will come into play as well. As a general rule, a bifurcated model can cut your time in transit in half for nationwide shipping. This is a powerful factor for enhancing customer satisfaction.

Do you offer storage services?

Yes, we offer storage associated with our fulfillment services. We are a tax paid facility, so we do not handle bond inventory.

Do you offer same-day or expedited shipping?

Yes. We provide expedited shipping options, including same-day processing for eligible orders. Our logistics team works closely with carriers to ensure timely and compliant delivery.

What small parcel carriers do you support for shipping wine?

CPL has relationships with UPS, FedEx, and GLS. Our clients can decide which carriers to use, either exclusively or in combination.

How do you handle shipping in the summer when it is hot?

There are three ways to ship products during extreme heat – using ice pack shippers, ship the order via overnight service level (with or without ice), or ship via the FedEx cold critical program (Napa only). Your Account Manager can assist in helping you determine which methods are most suitable.

Do you offer kitting?

Yes. We offer a full array of custom packaging, kitting, assembly, and mass corporate gifting programs. We can support both kit-to-stock and kit-on-the-fly concepts.  CPL sources and stocks a variety of gift boxes which are available to our winery partners for use in large-scale kitting projects or on individual orders.

How long does it take to get up and running?

We have a very detailed new account implementation process that guides every client through the process with ease and confidence. Getting you up and running can be as quick as two weeks, or may take six weeks, depending on complexity.
